Week 30 March 24 - 28

Hello parents,

It has been a sad time at Zion this week. Drew's death has affected teachers and students in different ways. Just to keep you informed, our seventh grade made cards and videos for Drew in December and we have talked about him several times throughout the year. This week, we have talked about loss, family, sadness and of course, God's love for us.

Please talk with your seventh grader about this experience. Some students may not connect as much as others to Drew's death, but all of them have feelings which we hope they talk about with you.

The funeral was today, and we served the Albritton family by helping to supervise a first grade class so their teacher could attend the funeral. We did not, as a class, attend the funeral, but this was our way to honor and serve Drew's family. Some pictures of the 7th and 1st grade below watching Cars and eating tootsie rolls.

To add to the "tough things to talk with your kids about" list, we finished up Thrive today. Today's class was  excellent. Miss Lydia addressed negative media and how it affects our thoughts and beliefs. Kids really enjoyed it.

Have a blessed weekend. Hug your kids and thank the Lord for our many blessings and His gift of eternal life in heaven.

In Christ,
Mrs. Murray

Grandparents Day Pictures

Hello families,

I hope you had a great Spring Break. The kids are back to school and we start fourth quarter running.

I love fourth quarter. (Not because it is the last leg of the year!) I love it because the kids have grown so much from the beginning of the year. We have built great relationships, and we just really get to have some fun. There is a lot to look forward to and so much to learn.

This week THRIVE Best Choice is here presenting to the 7th graders. Please ask them about their experience with Miss Lydia. I suggest asking them every day what they talked about. Remember, Thrive is here to support you in the discussion of relationships, abstinence, and living a Christ-centered life. So far, the 7th grade has laughed and participated with our leader. It's a beautiful thing to see!

Also, next week we have achievement testing. Encourage your teen ;) to get some sleep and eat a great breakfast. You know the drill.

Grandparents day was a success. I hope your families enjoyed their time at Zion. Seeing your kids with their grandparents was awesome. I saw hugs, pride, love, and family.  It should make you so happy how great your kids are. Check out some pictures below. These kids and grandparents are so blessed.

Have a great week.

Week 28 March 3 - 7

Hello parents,

What a strange weather week we had. The titanic storm that wasn't and then a 50 degree Friday with no more snow and ice on the ground. I know I will look forward to the giant puddle in front of the junior high drying up and leaving my coat at home.

The kids have been working hard this week. We have spent a lot of time getting AR accomplished and studying for the Constitution Test.

Please note that the kids have many tests next week as Friday is the end of third quarter. Hard to believe, but true.

Constitution test is on Monday
English and History test. (I am not sure which days for those.)
Science test on Wednesday
Literature test Thursday.

They all need to work on some studying this weekend in order to have a successful week next week.

Remember Friday is Grandparents day and we look forward to hosting chapel for the entire school. What a blessing your 7th grader will be to all who attend.

The 7th graders worked with Miss Limback's kindergartners earlier in the week and the video she made from their work is below. You would be SO proud to know how wonderful and kind they are with the little ones. I tell them how much the little ones love to see them and be with them. I always ask them to compliment and give high fives. And then, they do it and it is awesome to see! I love when kids this age get to be a little kid again - instead of trying to be too cool. Watch the video below to see how blessed we all are.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Week 27 Februray 24 - 28

Two week blog update:

* I have pictures to share with you, but I cannot get them to upload to my blog right now. I will continue to try and post them, but patience has run out for this teacher this morning!
LHS Play: The 7th and 8th graders greatly enjoyed seeing the Lutheran High play last Thursday.  The small high school cast impressed the audience with their line memorization, quick costume and scene changes, as well as the comedy thrown into each mythological story.  Well done!!  It was extra special to see three of the main characters who were Zion graduates ('13).

A,B,C Book Literature Projects have been completed and presented to the class. The 7th graders seemed to enjoy this challenging project; ask you child to share their A, B, C book with you!

Yearbook Sales: A flyer regarding online Yearbook sales came home with your child Friday. Each Yearbook is $20 and orders must be placed by March 3. Don’t miss out!

Ash Wednesday March 5th: We will have a special chapel service on Wednesday and the imposition of ashes will take place as we exit the chapel.

*Services will be held on Wednesdays during lent at 3:30 and 7 PM.

Book Fair: will begin on Saturday the 8th of March.

Grandparent's Day: 7th grade leads chapel, noon dismissal, end of 3rd quarter. Invitations went out with Friday papers. Also, a dismissal consent form. If you would like your child's grandparent to take them home a signed form is required. Thanks!

Dates to Remember:

March 10 Missouri Constitution Test
March 14 Grandparent's Day, 7th grade leads chapel, noon dismissal, end of 3rd quarter
