Week 5 September 15 - 19

Hello parents,

We are starting a computer project in science class this upcoming week. It is a virus and bacteria Prezi. Each student has a disease and they will develop a Prezi presentation. They will have some time to work on this presentation in class this week. If you are not familiar with this digital presentation format, check it out via the ink below.

Walkathon is THIS Friday, September 26. An orange half sheet of information went home with the kid's Friday papers. Please assist in any way you can with helping students obtain pledges. Operation Christmas Child is our organization this year. All 100 boxes have arrived for us to fill this November. The pledge donation will go towards purchasing items for Christmas boxes shown below.

Week 4 September 8 - 12

Hello parents,

The seventh graders have been working hard this week in their classes. I am impressed with their overall artistic side that I saw in their religion poster for the Six Chief Parts of Lutheran Doctrine. Also, look for their bacteria diagram. There is some very nice work coming my way with that.

Mrs. Cluck will share her blog with me and I will send it along to you. We have some pictures of the kids working on their art project this afternoon with paint and the color wheel. Ask them about the project - I think they had a good time this afternoon.

We have arrived at MID QUARTER. The grades for mid quarter reports will be uploaded Monday afternoon. Please look at your child's grades to see their progress. There will be occasions (late work, absent work) that will show up as a "ab" or "mi" in the gradebook. This adversely affects their overall grade for the time being. I will always put in these markers because it flags me when I look at their grades. A child may have turned something in, but is not graded in time for the upload. Therefore, you may see one of those codes and the unfortunate math that goes with it. Feel free to email me with specific questions, but letting you know this now lessons the shock on those rare occasions you see that happen.

Zion Walkathon: Coming up the end of September. Please help out with pledges for our junior high kids to collect enough funds and items (item drive to come in November) to fill 100 boxes for children this Christmas. See link below for more information about our organization.

Week 3 Sept. 2 - 5

Hello parents,

I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. My family and I went to a Cardinals game and it was the best live game we have ever seen - it was exciting!

The 7th grade has had a good week. We have had some "talking troubles" and some "pokey puppies" the first couple of weeks but they are starting to get the hang of it. I very much enjoy all of my kids and getting to know them all has been fun.

Walkathon information will come home this Friday. The date for the walkathon is September 26th. Students will come home with a pledge sheet and some background about our organization that we will sponsor. This year it is Samaritan's Purse: Operation Christmas Child.

Student papers come home on Fridays. I hand back science worksheets as soon as I check them in because kids may need them to study. Hold your kids accountable for showing you their papers. Ask them questions and check their grades on edline. Uploads of grades happen on Monday afternoons. I will help you any way I can if you have questions or concerns.

A big THANK YOU to our room parent volunteers, Michelle Wadley and Laura Horton. These ladies will be busy getting the kids parties together this year, the Zion auction class item, and organizing volunteers in May for the 8th grade graduation reception. (All parents on deck for the 8th grade graduation reception!)

If you are able to assist Mrs. Wadley or Mrs. Horton in any way, they would very much appreciate it. Please touch base with them. Many hands make lighter work. Any ideas for the auction item would be great.

Chapel Offering:

This year our school has chosen to support the Christian Resource Center in India. This is a center that helps to spread the Good News of Jesus in a country that is 97% non christian.

Pastor Sam Thompson works at Christian Resource Center and is currently studying at Concordia Seminary.   He spoke at chapel on Wednesday. It was very moving. He shared how his GOOD NEWS CLASS brought a young sick girl to know Jesus love and she became a Christian.

Many years later Pastor Sam Thompson was surprised when he met the girl.  She told him how Jesus healed her and her whole family had been baptized.  God is at work in India through people at the Christian Resources Center. Our offering will go to support the work at the Christian Resource Center as they share Jesus. Namaste!

Building Dedication:

Please join us this weekend as we dedicate the final stage of the campus expansion. All of the services (5 pm Saturday, 8 am & 10:30 Sunday) will be held in the gymnasium.

A reception following each service will be held in the commons. You will have the opportunity to tour all buildings at this time. Come join the celebration of God’s Blessings!

Blessings on your weekend. Enjoy your families and some time to rest.
Mrs. Murray
