Week 15 Nov 16 - 20

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34

Happy Thanksgiving Zion family!

I hope you have a wonderful week with your family. Safe travels, happy eating, and peaceful family celebrations to all of you.

Advent service for 5th and 6th grade is the week we return, December 2nd. We have a 10am performance and a 7pm performance. The classes have really worked hard and it is coming together nicely. More information about that to come.

Christmas Art is looking great. It is some of the best 6th grade Christmas art I have seen. A lot of care is being taken by these kids to demonstrate their talents. I am very proud of them.

Blessings on your week and Happy Thanksgiving.

Week 14 Nov. 9 - 13

Hello parents,

Big item for this week. Mid-quarter grades are posted. Please be sure to look at your child's grades. November and December go by so quickly with Advent, classroom projects and presentations, Thanksgiving break, family obligations. Whew! Keep up with your student's grades so there are no surprises.

Also, I talked with every student in my homeroom about AR. They are all aware of their AR points. AR points are due December 11th, which is the last day to take tests.

Thanksgiving Food Drive: Junior High has been asked to focus on household items and toiletries. Food is always welcome also.

Christmas Service Project: Junior high is making kits for Christian Friends of New Americans, socks and small stuffed animals are being collected for our welcome kits. In need of the stuffed animals the most at this time. A really great collection has started already! Thank you so much!

Cup stacking happened on Thursday. Lots of pictures below. Enjoy.

Week 13 Nov. 2 - 6

Hello Parents,

In honor of our Luther study: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,  not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2: 8-9

I look forward to seeing some of you at church. Zion services are Saturday 5:00, Sunday 8:00 and 10:30. Bible Study at 9:30. Maybe I will see some of you Saturday night at church. For me, I have to plan ahead and actually put it on my calendar because of our busy weekends. I always say, if an event is not on my google calendar it won't happen!

The walkathon service project continues as we move in to our November items drive for the junior high students. We continue to support Christian Friends of New Americans. Below is part of the flyer that went home in the kids' Friday papers. We will then pack the welcome bags in early December to delivery to our organization.

Together, we are blessed to serve.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.
1 Peter 4:10

The junior high service project for November and December is to collect new socks and small to medium sized new stuffed animals as part of a welcome kit for our sponsored organization,
Christian Friends of New Americans.

What can YOU bring in to help?

(New. Child to adult sizes.)
Stuffed animals
(New. Able to fit in a gallon size Ziploc bag.)

Our goal: 200 welcome kits
That is approximately 2 bags per student. We can do it!

Please bring in as many socks and stuffed toys as you can, in order to help fill these welcome bags!

Items purchased from the additional funds collected during the walkathon service project will fill the remainder of the bags along with witness messages. Please have your items in by Tuesday, December 1st.

Science next week: We are finishing up our studies of the Earth. We will continue to review and have our Chapter 3, Volcanoes test on Tuesday. There will be a digital project for the kids to work on after this chapter test.

Memory next week: We pick up the pace because we are working on our Advent songs. Please remind your students that keeping up is very, very important. Grace days should only be used in an emergency. Making up verses can be very difficult to manage with this very busy time of year.

Advent: Songs right now our a priority and are memory homework. Please help your student study these verses and refrains. They are singing them during Advent practice also, but there is a lot.

Actors will also have lines to memorize. Time management will be key!

This 6th grade class are wonderful performers. It should be a great service.

Religion: We are wrapping up our Luther study. The kids know so much about Martin Luther, if you have any questions for them ask. They seem connected to his story in a way that I find very important and super cool.

Thanksgiving Food drive: Below is an email from STUCO regarding our Thanksgiving Food Drive. Note some changes this year. I included all grade level information in case you have siblings in other classes. We will take all food donations, but junior high is also focusing on household items. See note below. Thank you in advance!

Zion Family,
Wednesday the 18th Student Council will be leading chapel and collecting Thanksgiving food donations for Seminary families. Student Council has decided to try something new and assign specific food items for each grade in order to receive enough items of each kind. Please encourage your students to start collecting these food items, we will of course accept all food and household donations.

Our goal is to pack 20 Thanksgiving dinner boxes as well as stock the Seminary Food Bank (food, bathroom supplies, cleaning supplies, etc.).
